Ottawa criminal defence lawyer Bruce Engel has been retained to represent one of the co-defendants in a high-profile murder prosecution. Mr. Engel represents Gurpeet Ronald who will be tried jointly along with co-defendant Bhupinderpal Gill on a charge of first-degree murder in the Jan. 29 death of Gill’s wife, Jagtar Gill, in the Barrhaven neighbourhood.
As Mr. Engel recently discussed in a television interview with the CBC, Ms. Ronald will plead not guilty and Mr. Engel intends to vigorously fight the charges against her. He said she is confused and bewildered by the charges and “just wants to know what the evidence is and how is she linked to this. She’s very, very surprised and very eager to find out what’s going on.”
